It’s a busy time of celebrating, gathering, baking, shopping and giving of ourselves, but as I have learned this year, it is also important to give to ourselves during the holiday season. For me this reminder became very clear during some recent crises at the Spa.
First my washer and dryer broke down and I needed help moving them both, so I reached out to some male friends who were very happy to help and I am very appreciative of them answering my call of distress. Another day, my water tank burst and my lovely mom came over at 11 pm to help with the water disaster. I was so grateful for her support. In both cases, reaching out for support helped immensely. I usually tend to tackle everything on my own, but I’ve realized it’s important to reach out sometimes!
I was reminded of this yet again when I asked my good friend Sandra for help to decorate the Spa for the holiday season. I usually do it on my own and I do enjoy it, but this year, it was fun to have another person to share the experience with. Another reminder of the nourishing power of sharing with others came when my dear friend of 25 years, who is like a sister to me, invited me over for dinner with her family. I felt so nurtured after spending time with her and her family relaxing and enjoying good food and a Christmas movie. It really helped me unwind from a busy and stressful week.
On the day to day, I’ve tried to be mindful of taking time for self-care. Spending time in the kitchen, making homemade soup and food for the week… Taking a moment in my busy day to have a cup of tea, breathe and just be… Ending a busy day with a hot bath… Waking up and massaging my feet with essential oils and setting a positive intention for my day… all these are ways I have incorporated self-care into my routine recently.
Christmastime can feel so busy and chaotic at times, so it’s even more important to include self-care rituals that nourish your soul and uplift your spirit. Some days even I forget! But I always realize that it just takes one moment to get back into a good self-care routine, so remember to be kind and gentle with yourself during the holidays – take time for yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it!
